I have always wanted to go to the folk school. and the adirondack one just came on my radar last yr. LOTS of classes including an intesive learn what you want about weaving 3 day workshop.

My mother-in-law and her friend have to Harrisville and were very impressed with the classes they've taken. http://www.harrisville.com/

I don't weave, but I know Becky, and she does fabulous work:

I second the suggestion of Madelyn Van Der Hoogt's Weaver's School, and would add http://www.janestaffordtextiles.com/ - Jane Stafford is an amazing teacher.

Nice to see you today, Cassie! Hope you're well.

Not sure exactly what your friend is looking for (is she already a weaver?) but a friend of mine who had some weaving experience spent several weeks in the summer at Swans Island in Maine weaving blankets for them. She was allowed to use leftover yarn and the end of the warp on each run to weave whatever she wanted.

Harrisville has been outstanding with helping out my sister. She is local to them; I am not. She was seriously injured 2 years ago - Harrisville staff have been delightful to work with wrt helping her out, finding out what works with injuries/disabilities, etc. They have kept her artistic side alive during the healing process. I loves them :)

I have never taken a class and I'm not sure the individual attention counts, but I've been impressed with what I see (including classes in progress.)

However she learns to weave, a modular project is great with woven squares or rectangles, not just for knitting or crochet. She can explore weaving with different structres, or different materials, different colors, etc. Lay it out on the floor when many pieces are woven and put them together as a "patchwork" project. Allows use of small , portable looms (small sample pieces) with larger swatches when a large loom is available for use.

Rochester Folk Art Guild-@ The Farm in Middlesex NY. They have an intensive weekend course, I think at the end of June, but also it is like a commune. Folks live there and work on the farm and learn/practice arts:photography, ceramics, gardening, weaving, etc.

I typed "weaving workshops" in the google search link & got over 3 million hits, so if you narrow it down to your area, you'll find something you & your student will like. Over here on the west coast, the best places are the senior centers, as some will take all ages on a space available basis.

yes nice article I also weave

The Mannings - www.the-mannings.com is nationally know.

It's about 45 minutes southwest of Harrisburg PA. I've heard very good things about Tom Knisley, the instructor.

Not affiliated, but I do shop there...

I don't weave, I just read. Wish I had ideas for you! :(

Just reading this... will agree with Deb in PA. Tom Knisley and The Mannings are both top-notch!
